Last week, Tsipe wrote in Postimees (in Estonian) that the loss of biodiversity threatens agricultural landscapes. The current agricultural subsidies of the European Union have rather favored intensive production, which, however, does not support the preservation of biodiversity. Intensive production is accompanied by more and more uniform landscapes, which leads to a reduction in biodiversity. In addition, the amount of pesticide residues in our soils, for example, has increased tenfold in a decade. In order to preserve biodiversity and sustainable agriculture, ecological intensification techniques could be used much more than before, using tillage techniques that use the benefits of nature and biodiversity skillfully and sustainably. Such techniques include, for example, promoting soil biodiversity, biocontrol and diversifying landscapes.
