The UN Climate Conference COP28 in Dubai in November-December brought together world-leading politicians, climate scientists and experts in the field to discuss developments and future strategies related to climate change adaptation and the reduction of their causes. Professor Aveliina Helm, Head of the Landscape Biodiversity Group, was also part of the delegation of the University of Tartu.
During the conference, Aveliina Helmi's presentation also brought attention to Greenmeter, an application that helps the landowner to assess the extent to which the structure of the landscape of their land and the environmental conditions support the preservation of biodiversity. Greenmeter is an application developed by the Macroecology Workgroup of the University of Tartu and the Landscapes Biodiversity Workgroup, which helps to assess the support of the landscape for the preservation of biodiversity, taking into account environmental conditions, landscape structure and ecological indices.
The University of Tartu delegation includes Vice Rector for Development Tõnu Esko, Professor of Restoration Ecology Aveliina Helm, Professor of Geoinformatics Evelyn Uuemaa, Research Fellow in Geoinformatics Alexander Kmoch, Professor of Climate Science Piia Post, Professor of Urban and Population Geography Tiit Tammaru, and bachelor’s student of Biology and Biology and Biodiversity Conservation, Ellen Roper.
