Launch of our citizen science campaign - Estonia is searching for cowslips!

This spring, our workgroup, Estonian Fund for Nature and "Let's Do It" invite all citizens to join an exciting citizen science initiative – Estonia is searching for cowslips! Project focuses on heterostyly of common grassland plant Primula veris - cowslip. This well-known spring flower is a special plant, because it has two different kind of flowers - flower morphs. Some individuals have long style of pistil and short stamens (L-type), others have it vice versa - long stamens and short style (S-type). This difference can be distinguished just by observing the plant, which is exactly what we are asking people around Estonia to do. Each participant needs to check hundred individuals in one habitat and mark in the dedicated cowslip webpage whether the cowslip flowers are S-type or L-type. With nationwide data, we will be able to estimate the condition of cowslip and also other grassland plants in our landscapes.
