Ajaloolise taimeökoloogia kaasprofessor

Minu senises teadustöös on kesksel kohal ajalooliste faktorite mõju uurimine taimede liigirikkusele. Olen uurinud kuidas ajalooline maastiku struktuur ja maakasutus mõjutavad tänapäeva taimekoosluste liigirikkust ja kui pikalt see mõju kestab. Lisaks tänapäevaste koosluste uurimisele olen kasutanud mitmeid paleoökoloogilisi meetodeid, eelkõige õietolmu analüüsi, ja keskendunud taimekoosluste muutustele viimase 12000 aasta jooksul. Minu paleoökoloogilistes uurimustes on keskseks küsimuseks kliimamuutuste ja inimmõju olulisus taimekoosluste liigilise koosseisu ja taimemitmekesisuse kujundana läbi aja. Nii oma paleoökoloogilistes kui tänapäeva taimeuuringutest olen keskendunud taimemitmekesisuse erinevatele aspektidele: taksonoomiline, fülogeneetiline, funktsionaalne mitmekesisus.

Maastike elurikkuse töörühmas on minu teadustöö fookuses pool-looduslike koosluste taastamisega seotud teemad, mulla orgaanilise süsiniku ja liigirikkuse vahelised seosed eri kooslustes, ajalooliste faktorite mõju nii koosluste liigirikkusele kui nende taastamise ja taastumise potentsiaalile. Minu uuringute keskmes on eelkõige taimekooslused, aga ka taimede interaktsioonid teiste organismirühmadega nagu sümbiontsed seened ja tolmeldajad. Uurin millised organismirühmad taastuvad kiiremini kuidas maastiku ajalugu ja struktuur mõjutavad koosluste edukat taastumist.
