In April, Aveliina (as a teacher), Iris and Elisabeth (as students) were in Tenerife to participate in the PhD course "Laws of the altitudinal zones of vegetation: Evolution, ecology and human impact", funded by Doctoral School of Earth Sciences and Ecology. The aim of the course was to introduce doctoral students with vegetation patterns and biodiversity of mountainous regions, and to increase knowledge and understanding of the processes that shape vegetation and the adaptation of plants to different environmental conditions. Tenerife is a perfect place for such course due to its large altitudinal gradient and rapid shift of vegetation zones and communities. As a part of the course, we also carried out fieldwork for the
DarkDivNet project - a global network to explore the dark diversity of plant communities.
